Independence

Are you here to be with me
Or are you gonna leave
When can we be free
To see what we want to see

Cause you see I've got to know
So I can move on

My days have passed
I thought it could last
You were there to see me through
Man I thought I knew

Move on

Far From Inside

When the sky's too big
To give a moment in time
Show me a moment of peace
Before you lose my mind
When the ride is long
And far from inside
You gotta take what you can get
From the world outside

Seven Silver Dollars

Seven jacks are wild
And the tables overthrown
Set five aces on fire
So I can go on home

We'll play till we can't stand up
Or till we're out of luck

The still has been shut down
And the town is all dried up
Pick me up a few
So we can get the job done

Gotta bottle in my head
Got the gun in my hand
If I don't do the deed
Take this night away from me

Seven dollar inside
Got my hand in the red
I could lose my mind
If I only had the time

Alexis Grossman: Vocal / Claps / Shaker
Mark Shepherd: Bass / Banjo / Claps / Bongos

Through The Trees

Sun is shinning through my eyes
When I'm laughing with the trees
On my back in my mind
Laying in the autumn leaves

Through the trees

Throwing rocks in the water
All my dreams pass me by
Leaves falling on the mountain
Spinning all around my eyes

Follow me

Rain is falling over me
All is new hear me sing
Come on down to the river
Bring your soul and follow me

Bottles clanging in the cellar
Bring one out and swallow me
Running spinning through the trees
Come on a nd follow me

Stewy Surf

This here's the story of Stewy Surf

Stewy Surf went to the beach
Tride to catch a wave
But he couldn't reach it
He put on his pants
But they didn't fit
So he was naked for the rest of the day

Oh Stewy Surf
We love the way you ride that wave
You are outta site baby

Take it away Mark

Under the water
There's a lot of fish
I was waiting to see if they would come by
And give me a kiss
But I guess they didn't

Stewy Surf went to the beach
He couldn't surf good so he got a peach
He wanted an apple but they didn't sell 'em
Oh no! I'll buy a mellon

Some Cause & Effect

She began to cover her tracks
With the memory
Of never coming back
The way he called out her name

With the lights always on
She tried to come home
Sometime after dawn
To lay down on her own

And if he stayed up all night
And the TV flichers on
She arrives by the light
Of the early morning dawn

They shard the smae bed
Until sleep was hard
Nothing was taken
But noone really tried

But way inthe distance
They called out the same line

They stood at the end
Of an imaginary line
Some cause of effect
Or a means to an end
Just a means to an end

Tylor Durand: Vocal / Acoustic guitar / Drums
Alexis Grossman: Shaker
Mark Shepherd: Bass / Acoustic guitar

Wasteland

Sometimes I might fall
Be sick of it all
And the times I foget
The hours I regret

If you had it all

They say I will
I may not be
Who I say I am
Sometimes I go wrong
Sometimes I win
Sometimes I loose
It's time to begin

If I play it to strong
And to feel nothing inside
Is it wrong to hold it inside
Is it wrong inside

I might get rid of
You will come
I'll just fall
Is it done
To waste what we have

The Parlor Hall

We opened it up
The floor fell through
She wasn't really there
Take a look
She was hanging by a thread
Reading a book

Somebody out there
Thinks I'm dead
Well I may be sure

It happened again
It happened before

Nothing for real
Stays with you in the end

The night cut short
Like an arrow head
Low low low light
Treating you right

She can't get out

Alexis Grossman: Shaker
Mark Shepherd: Acoustic guitar / Tamborine

She's Electric (Acoustic)

By no means electric
By no means just begun
She's a nickel
We've all bet on

In plastic time
She tells my secrets
In playful ryhme
She's just begun

By no means electric

The parlor hall
We dance on time
The steaming night
The time is right

She's got the stride
The love of this world
She'sgot the stride
Of this world

By no means electric

Tylor Durand: Vocal / Acoustic guitar
Mark Shepherd: Flute

Some Say

Some people say
She tried to sleep all day
Others swear
She put her money away
But with that look on his face
She had nothing to say
And they lit up the hall
Falling down drunk

She Tried to forget his name
But the mail always came

Between the two
Nothing really matters
Makes any sense
The house was too small
She couldn't move around
Anyone could go
He couldn't get it together
He wouldn't let it show

She Tried to forget his name
But the mail always came

She had a hard time
Finding common ground
He couldn't tell
Time all around

Tide

Sometimes she gets up
Sometimes she lays down
And in the middle of the week
She's the only one around

Here comes the tide

Well the pick-up men say

You do what you can
Make it worth your while

Here comes the tide

Coconuts

Cocnut trees
Grow in all the tropical and semi-tropical countries of the world
Wherever the weather is always warm and summery
There you will find coconut palms
They're usually near the ocean
And along the coast of Florida and California
They are sure to be seen
In the South Sea Islands
The coconut palm is a very important tree
It's fruit furnishes the natives with food
And the kind of milk that inside of the fresh green coconut

Coconut

The tree itself provides shade and shelter
And wood for building

Coconut

From the bark the native make rope and chords
And from the leaves they make masks and baskets
The coconut itslef is a large nut
About the shape of a football
But a little bit smaller
And on the outside of the nut
There's a thick, stringy husk
The fibers from this husk are dry
And made into a tough and hard-wearing material called croix
Croix is made to make door mats, bumbers for boats, stuffing for mats, and upholstered furniture

The Green Bullet Rodeo Sessions (May 1997)

Somewhere Below

You've been pulled down
Somewhere below

Dusty old shed
I found my past
It looked at me
Then it ran right past
With the end in sight
It all falls down
Do I have the right
To be in another town

Well the corn grows high
Like it always will
Do I take my place
At the top of the hill
If I've done something wrong
Can I try it again
What comes around
Will it come again

It's a wicked old world
But I got my cause
In the bitter cold
Can we find any laws

Down By The Seaside

The rain on the sides of the barn blown down
Dead end road to a dead end town
Nothing ever happens and noone really cares
The dust rolls over the old time square

I've been here before but I don't know when
Did I leave forever or am I back again
Stares of the leaf haunt my mind
Look out the back of a by gone time

With the end in sight it all falls down
Do I have the right to be in another town

Crystal Diamond

I graduated high school in 1974 and well, I guess I didn't really know what I wanted to do then. So I got
a job. I got a job like everybody else gets a job. I worked at the plant in Kalakaska. What I really
wanted to do was be in a band. I liked listening to music, I played the guitar and I'd write songs and
I'd sing them. I was in a high school band and we were called Crystal Diamond and then after that we
broke up and I was playing on my own trying to get a band together. But anyway, so now I still got the
same job. I mean it's not the same job, I got more responsibility but it's the same place I worked for
when I got out of high school. I'm not playing as much as I want to be, but...

Winter 1978 (Takes 1 & 2)

That was about the worst winter we ever had. It was 1978. I was living with my family in Baldwinsville, NY. I was probably about 12 years old. That was the same winter as the Snow Angel Murderer. He was somebody, they never caught him, he would go around making snow angels, you know like lay on your back in the snow and swishing your arms and legs so it looks like an angel, he would do that and then he would place the body of a small child in the center. Five children that winter were murdered.

I don't live anywhere near the snow now, I live out on the west coast wand it's always warm. People say out there people are lazier or more laid back or whatever, or kooky. But I'll tell you something, there's something about living with no weather. Everything seems alot easier. It doesn't make you crazy.

Watch O'l Bandit Run
Original version by Jerry Reed

All the way down the East coast

We got a long way to go and a short time to get there
That's all baby ride on bandit run

I left the calamity for Amity
The beat for the beach
My name is Brody
And they call me the chief

What's your name? Crissy!
Where we going? Swimming!

You say barracuda peole go "huh, what?"
You yell "shark!" and we got a panic on our hand on the Fourth of July

Alex Kintner, your fingers are beginng to prune

Pippet? Pippet?

Just let me get my raft and go back out on the water

You'll never be an islander
You're not born here, you're not from here

Jaws (Take 3 & Take 4 - Complete Version)

I left the calamity for Amity
The beat for the beach
My name is Brody
And they call me the chief

What's your name? Crissy!
Where you going? Swimming!

You say barracuda peole go "huh, what?"
You say "shark!" and we got a panic on our hand on the Fourth of July

Alex Kintner, your fingers are beginng to prune

That's some bad hat Harry

Pippet? Pippet?

Ya'll know me, you know how I earn a livin
I'll catch this bird for ya, but it ain't gonna be easy
I value my neck alot more than three thousand bucks chiefy
I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him and kill him for ten

You all know where I can find chief Brody?
I'm Brody, I'm Brody!

Let me see the remains of the first victim
The girl on the beach
No smoking in here, or this is what happens
Well this was no boating accident, no coral reef
And it was no Jack The Ripper

It was a shark!

You go in the cage
Cage goes in the water
Shark's in the water
Our shark
Pretty big shark

Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish Ladies
Farewell and adieu you ladies of Spain
For we've received orders for the sail back to Boston
And so never more shall we see you again

I'll never put on a life jacket again
Come on down here and chum some of this shit

I can stear straight ahead
He stears the boat chief

Hooper, Hooper!
Stop playing yourself mister Hooper

See this?
Thrasher, cut through my wet suit

Let's drink to our legs, I'll drink to your leg

Show me the way to go home
I'm tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour agao
And it went right to my head

He can't go down with three barrels in her
Not with three barrels!
Tie me up another barrel

Aren't you watchin it?

He's chasing the boat
He's following us into shore

We're gonna need a bigger boat

We're gonna lead him into shore
And we're gonna drown him

Back home we got a taxidermy man
He's gonna have a heart attach when he sees what I brought him

Smile you son of a bitch!

Groundhog Day

Woke up inmy trailer this morning
And what a sight did I see
Three little groundhogs
And they were looking at me

It's groundhog day for the groundhog

The groundhog went to look for the squirrel
And the squirrel said where's the groundhog
It's groundhog day for the groundhog
Not for the squirrel

Squirrel didn't like groundhog
Said he lived in the groundhog all day long
And the hog and the dog and the ground and the groundhog hog and the dog and the groundhog
Not the squirrel in the tree

Tree ain't friend of the groundhog
He likes ground
He's a ground he's a ground he's a groundhog
Don't like the tree or the squirrel
And the birdfeeder is for the squirrel
Not the groundhog
On groundhog day

So the groundhog got himself a gun
Gonna kill the squirrel for fun
Groundhog shot the squirrel
Shot him right out of the tree
Fell down landed on his right knee and broke it
And his head
Hit a rock and exploded all over the groundhog

Groundhog day got the groundhog got the squirrel brains on his knee
The knee of the squirrel is broken
When he fell out of the tree
Cause the groundhog day shot him on groundhog day

Groundhog day for the groundhog

Strange Brew
by Cream

She sniffs glue

Strange brew
Kill what's inside of you

She's a witch of trouble in electric blue
In her own mad mind she's in love with you
With you
Now what you gonna do?

Strange brew
Kill what's inside of you

She's some kind of demon made out of glue
If you dont watch out she'll stick to you
To you
What kind of fool are you?

Strange brew
Kill what's inside of you

Take it Alex!

Strange brew
Kill what's inside of you

On a boat in the middle of a raging sea
She will make a scene for it all to be
Ignored
And wouldn't you be bored?

Strange brew
Kill what's inside of you

Kill what's inside of you baby!

Nyack Kyack (Demo)

Here I'm sitting in the city
Feeling kinda shitty
On a sunny day

Hey I'm going up to Nyack
Gonna take my kyack
On a sunny day

I'm gonna see if my girl is there

Hey I'm headed up the river
Working off a shiver
On a sunny day

Hey I'm passing by the seagulls
Working off my love handles
On a sunny day

I'm gonna see if my girl is there
I'm gonna see my girl so fair

Hey I'm pulling into Nyack
Paddling my kyack
On a sunny day

Hey I'm gonna get my rocks off
When I get my socks off
On a sunny day

I'm gonna see if my girl is there
I'm wanna see my girl in her underwear

It's OK To Feel That Way

I kicked a puppy
I hate the sun
I poop your party
Cause you're having fun
I fuck a rainbow
I kill a clown
Blow out the sunset
And wear a frown

But don't get me wrong
This ain't that same sad sond
The one that goes like that
And brings you down

Cause it's OK to feel that way

I took your toaster
You took my chair
I stand alone now
Cause life ain't fair
Sometimes I wonder
If you still care
You look so happy
Without me there

But don't get me wrong
This ain't that same sad sond
The one that goes like that
And brings you down

Cause it's OK to feel that way

Turnpike Of Love

Turnpike of love

Cruising down highway I-95
Heading towards a little town called Heartbreak
Just keep the peddle to the meddle
Head for the Sun there's no exit ramp
On the turnpike of love

Turnpike of love
Comin on down

Slip your fingers on the dash
No money in the glove
Just you and me baby
On the turnpike of love

Turnpike of love
I think I blew a flat baby

Engine's running hot
No time to slow down
Next stop is Heartbreak
My kind of town

Turnpike of love
Don't slow down baby

Gonna tattoo my heart
Your name's gonna last
On the turnpike of love
My car is too fast

Turnpike of love
No exit ramp baby, gotta keep goin
I can't slow down

1,000 Miles

Nashional was shut down
Due to ice and snow
Baltimore was clsed down
Dulles the only way to go
Got to meet Hier Klinsman
He knows I'm running late
My flight delayed for hours
Beers with Jen were really great
Brought seventy dollars with him
At the bar he spent sixty-three

Put a thousand miles on my car
Put two thousand on me

Meet outside a baggage sign
We go out for a beer
A pitcher seventeen dollars
Glad that I don't live here
Cold weather and politicians
You know I don't trust them
Our car made lousy traffic
We get in at 4am

Ended up in Tampa
Started in D.C.
Put a thousand miles on my car
Put two thousand on me

Five hours down to Chapel Hill
Karen's looking good
We see Mac from Superchunk
Beers costin what they should
The Clash is on the jukebox
Tonight I'm not feeling so old
Five hours tomorrow
Time to think when your on the road

Sometimes On Thursdays

Sometimes on Thursdays
We start our weekends
Sometimes on Wednesdays
We're drinkin again
Some people don't have a soul
That they can call a friend
Not me I just pick up the phone
Call Tia or Jen

Sometimes in the morning
I wake and I feel old
But with these ladies
I'm never cold
They're in thier twenties
Like to have their fun
I'm in my thirties
But they keep me young

Now Tia's kinda spicey
She's the pepper to Jen's salt
Jen she's kinda quiet
Gotta a style all her own
No need to talk

Sometime I think there's no point
To what we do
Hangin out as three
Better than hangin out as two
Someday I know this will all
Come to an end
But until that day
Call Tia and Jen

Crackin green ones
Smokin cigarettes
Hangin out
Till the break of day
They see a guy like me
With these two ladies
They think for sure
That I'm gay

Drinkin everynight for a man like me
Could be a hassle
That's why I sit one out
And they go to the Castle
Some people don't have a soul
That they can call a friend
Not me I just pick up the phone
Call Tia or Jen

One Blind Eye

I hear you been clowning around
Making funny faces at clouds
Tracing them with one blind eye
It'll all return one day
I promise with a happy face
Promise I won't fade away
Shadows scattered skipping stones
Tripping when I'm on the phone

Yawning death hard to feel
Cheated by the passers by
Hurling obscenity
Tired he drops to his knees

Afflicted I stroke my pride
